These are simple games that you can learn quickly and play in a short time. There are card, dice, and checkerboard games, each with variations. There are both familiar and new games. And a fair number of games are free.       Each game uses one or more items from the following list of standard game equipment: a checkerboard, 1 to 24 playing pieces (like checkers), often in two colors, sometimes with distinguishing marks, 1 to 5 standard (6-sided) dice, 1 or 2 standard decks of (52) playing cards, 1 to 52 tokens (like pennies), sometimes in two colors, a pencil and paper.       There are traditional games such as Crazy Eights, Yacht, and Checkers. These games are free. Rules are provided for each game as a PDF file. If you cannot find a particular game here, you can often borrow or buy a book containing the rules for that game, or you can look for the rules online. A list of game books and websites is provided in the Game Resources.       There are also original Animal Games. Each Animal Games is associated with an animal. All game rule booklets have a picture of an animal or animals on the title page. Most of these games have an animal in the game's name. Some such as Birds On A Wire have animal qualities -- the cards are laid out "like birds on a wire".
